Start a New Year’s Revolution

It was that time of year again–time to make New Year’s resolutions, or not. Maybe you’ve made them and broken them so often that you decided it’s not worth it any more. After all, resolutions are only as strong as our resolve or willpower. In order to regain balance in our lives, we need more than resolution.

What we really need is a revolution. Resolution is about the outside; revolution is about the inside. A revolution connotes complete change--a transformational turn-around.

“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland. . .
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.”     Isaiah 43:19-21 (NIV)

The “old thing”–the Red Sea crossing–pales in comparison to God’s “new thing”–the Hebrew nation’s return to Jerusalem. Recognizable only through the eyes of faith, this “new thing” is what the Israelites longed for. We long for it too. If we are believers, we experienced newness at the time of our conversion. As the years pass, we may tend to focus primarily on the deep, treacherous waters and the arid, scorched terrain. But God intervenes and prepares a way through the desert with plenty of life-giving water for us to drink. That’s revolutionary change!

It’s not too late. Stop, pray, and ask God to initiate a few New Year's Revolutions in you! God wants to upset the status quo and make changes in your character, your thinking, your conversation, your behavior, your attitude, and in your faith!  Let God’s revolution begin in you.
