Beloved of God
Have you ever been in the 15-item grocery checkout line and have seen a person ahead of you with a full shopping cart? We may find ourselves saying things, under our breath of course, that the offender is a little bit inconsiderate, rude, or something else along that line. We would rarely, if ever, stop to say to ourselves that the “offender” is beloved of God.
We tend to look at people and see them on the outside. But is that how God views people?
There is another way that we can look at people. We can look at them and say to ourselves: Jesus died for them; so they are beloved of God. That goes for the president, the governor, the mayor, the person next door, people in Iraq, people that are poor, people that own fancy cars, and people of all different races and ethnic backgrounds. Even the person with the full grocery cart in the 15-item checkout line is beloved of God.
Yes, people may get under our skin; they may also do things that are in complete opposition to God. But all the same, God sent Jesus to die for them, to give them the opportunity of salvation. If other people are beloved of God, how then should we treat them?
“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Hebrews 13:20-21).
Prayer: Loving God of us all, may we see others as worthy recipients of Christian love. Thank you for sending Jesus to teach us how to love. Amen.
