The Secret To Finding True Freedom

March 10, 2015

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’.” -John 8:31-32 (NKJV)

During this season in the Christian faith we are reminded of all that Jesus Christ has done for all who claim Him as Lord and Savior. We thank God the Father for sending Jesus to die for our sins, and to give us hope for time and eternity. We, like Paul, rejoice at God’s unspeakable Gift to the world! Because of our faith in Jesus Christ we have been received into a privilege relationship with God.

In our text for today, there are a number of Jews in the crowd who listened in on the divine debate between Jesus and the Pharisees regarding His being the Son of God. The text says that many of the Jews in the crowd believed. They were excited about being in the presence of the Son of God and they wanted to be His “disciples”.   Jesus, being aware of their desire, defined for them the pathway to discipleship and divine freedom. In the midst of their excitement Jesus invited those in the crowd that desired to be His disciples to understand that there was a cost to be paid for true discipleship. Those who were willing to pay that cost would enter into a divine relationship with both Jesus Christ and God the Father. Through that relationship they would become true disciples of Jesus and they would know the truth and the truth would make them free. They would come to know “The Secret To Finding True Freedom”.

In our text, Jesus gives us a three-fold formula to understanding “The Secret To Finding True Freedom”:

  • Abide in God’s Word: Study God’s word continually as a way of life, and ask God for the strength to walk in His word each day. If we do this, we will live into the ways of Jesus Christ and become His disciples. (Read John 15:1-10)
  • Knowing The Truth: Knowing “the true” is more that living life without error. It also means to experience the revelation of God through God’s word. When we abide in God’s word, God will reveal to us the truth about God and His Son and our Savior Jesus Christ.
  • And the truth shall make you free: “The Secret To Finding True Freedom” is to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and dare to trust Him completely for all matters for both time and eternity. Jesus was “The Truth of God” in human form. He came to set us free from sin, death, the powers of this world and to show us the way to eternal life with God. When we know and embrace these thing about God’s love for all humanity, we know “The Secret To Finding True Freedom”. (Amen.)

Prayer: Almighty God, help every soul that claim Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior to draw near to You through Your word that we might experience Your power and presence in our lives both now and forever more. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
